Performers at Blue Mountains Music Festival 2019
The Northern Folk
"The Northern Folk fall into a beautiful and untouched musical category that sets them apart from the rest... one of the country’s most dynamic groups to perform both live and in the studio." – AAA Backstage
Hailing from Albury, NSW and based in Melbourne, The Northern Folk are a collective of ten musical ambitionists spreading their unique brand of folk/pop/stomp/rock into the roots of small towns and big cities alike. Combining two powerful vocalists, roaring horns, bashful bass and addictive percussion, their big, diverse sound proves flexible both on stage and on record and is continuing to earn them a following wherever they travel.
With seven members having attended the same high school, this young band of hopefuls came together in 2012 and began to make their name in and around north-east Victoria. From there the band were able to launch themselves into festivals such as Woodford Folk, the National, Illawarra Folk, Bendigo Blues, Bello Winter, Kangaroo Valley, Cobargo Folk and many more, their energy and spectacle described as “madcap exuberance” by Beat Magazine. With two albums under their belt, they’ve quickly settled into Melbourne, winning St Kilda Festival’s New Music Stage Competition and playing supporting sets for The East Pointers, and are now working on their third album as they tour the festival circuit once again.
