AJ Leonard and Jenny Rowlands

Since multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer AJ Leonard visited Hawaii in 2006 and developed a serious itch for the ‘jumping flea’ he has pretty much become a one-instrument man and one of Australia’s pioneering ukulele players. The woman in his life, Jenny Rowlands, has scratched her itch with her cello’s bow since long before attending the VCA and playing professionally throughout Australia.

Their appreciation of classical music, Tin Pan Alley tunes and music from films combine with AJ's love of historical fact and Jenny's classical flare to present concert goers with a musical experience that crosses time zones—combining timeless melodies with an irresistible blend of abandon and precision.

A.J. Leonard is one of Australia's pioneer ukulele players and is highly regarded to be among the best in the world. He started playing ukulele nearly 40 years ago in Melbourne when "there were very few players in the whole of Australia", learning specialist techniques and an appreciation of its true potential from a veteran of the ukulele hey-day of the 1920's. Leonard has released eleven albums since 2009 and together with cellist Jenny Rowlands has performed and conducted workshops at major music festivals across Australia, NZ and the USA.
