A superb line-up of female artists awaits festival goers this year. Nanci Griffith is one of America’s most iconic singer/songwriters from the country-folk genre that includes her friend Emmylou Harris and others like Mary Chapin Carpenter. We will also have a less traditional American writer, more in the grain of Lucinda Williams in Kim Richey. From Ireland we have the welcome return of Eleanor McEvoy. With her pure angelic voice Emily Smith is a rising star of the traditional Scottish scene performing with her duo partner Jamie McClennan.
Both Katie Euliss in Truckstop Honeymoon and Martha Spencer in The White Top Mountaineers carry on the bluegrass and roots tradition, and the all girl Uncle Earl band take it to another level.
The homegrown female talent is equally impressive. Kerrianne Cox will be back by popular demand, and we also have the soulful, bluesy Gail Page and her trio.
Over from Perth will be the scorching Grace Barbé with her band. To keep all this serious folk, roots and blues in perspective you will be able to watch The Kransky Sisters do their own strangely compelling thing. Also not to be missed from Melbourne are The Little Stevies and Noriko Tadano who plays traditional Japanese music with a western twist.
Add to this the Blue Mountains’ locals Tracey Campbell and her trio, Kate Rowe, Rachael Brady, Nikki Madden, Andrea Soler and The Ruby Bloomers and you have an unbeatable collection of women coming to play in 2010.
