Poet’s Breakfast
POET LORIKEET TRIBUTE
Denis Kevans Poets Breakfast
Saturday 9:30 - 1100 at The Shed
This year is a very special event as we celebrate the life of Denis Kevans (1939-2005). It is now 20 years since he passed on the baton to us all to make mirth, give birth and continue his tradition as the Witty Voice of a Humane Generation.
The Saturday Poets Breakfast will therefore be a tribute to his life and works. Although there are fewer of us left who knew Denis, all those performing have read his poems and know the profound effect he had and the legacy he left for the people.
In his repertoire he delivered hard-hitting rhymes at the injustices on the workers, stood against bad politics corrupt leaders and supported the cause of equality for race and women. You will hear many of these poems at this event.
At this tribute Wyn Jones, a personal friend of Denis, will officiate on a great line-up of poets including Greg North the Bush Poet who was inspired by Denis a few years before his passing. You will be enthralled by the great raconteur Paddy Cavanagh (or the POPE) and Cathy Cavanagh who also knew Denis and are eager to tell you of their hilarious and sometimes sad adventures in the early days of the freedom rides for First Nations People.
And there will be Brian Bell, Steve Alton, Lowell Tarling, Tex Mac, Wendy, Leonie, Jim Lowe, the crazy Don Morison and special first timer Shakespeare-o-phile Steve Rohan-Jones. Even John Ellison renowned artist will make a virgin appearance.
EXTRA SPECIAL APPEARANCE
Sophia Kevans and Anastasia - Denis’ daughter and granddaughter - will perform one of his songs “Mitchell”. It is indeed a privilege to have them here for the tribute.
The Tribute continues on Sunday with the DK Pagan Poets, in the Shed from 9.30am.
